How do I force customers to accept terms and conditions before checkout on Shopify?

Install ConsentGuard and add a required consent block (checkbox, banner, or acknowledgment) to your checkout. When a block is marked required, Shopify won't let the customer complete the order until they tick it. Setup takes about two minutes and needs no code or theme editing.

How can I prove a customer agreed to my terms in a chargeback or dispute?

ConsentGuard logs every order's consent with a timestamped snapshot of the exact terms text the customer saw at checkout. It does not manage cookie/GDPR consent banners and does not perform ID- or date-of-birth-based age verification; it records the customer's acknowledgment of the terms you present.

How does ConsentGuard add consent to Shopify checkout?

ConsentGuard uses Shopify's Checkout UI Extensions to render consent blocks (checkboxes, banners, acknowledgments) directly inside your native Shopify checkout. No theme code editing required. Configure blocks in the admin and they appear automatically at checkout.

Does ConsentGuard slow down checkout?

No. ConsentGuard uses a metafield-based architecture that delivers consent block configuration with zero network latency. The checkout extension reads data from a pre-synced shop metafield, eliminating any API calls during the checkout flow.

Can I require consent before checkout completion?

Yes. Consent blocks marked as "required" will physically prevent checkout completion until the customer accepts. This uses Shopify's native block_progress capability to halt the checkout flow.

How does the audit log prove what customers agreed to?

ConsentGuard records a tamper-proof text snapshot of the exact consent text shown to each customer at the moment of checkout, along with the order ID, timestamp, locale, and acceptance status. Even if you later edit the consent text, the audit record preserves what the customer actually saw.

Can I show different consent blocks for different products?

Yes. With the Pro plan and above, you can set display rules based on product tags, product types, or date ranges. For example, show an age verification checkbox only when the cart contains products tagged "alcohol", or show a seasonal return policy during holiday months.

Does ConsentGuard support multiple languages?

Yes. You can add translations for any locale. The checkout extension automatically detects the customer's checkout language and displays the matching translation. If no translation exists for that locale, it falls back to your default language.
